Recently, the Shandong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce hosted the Mid-Autumn Festival celebration for the Qingdao-Richmond sister-city relationship in Richmond, Canada. The event featured displays of Qingdao cultural and tourism products, handicrafts and city promotional posters, drawing many residents who stopped to view the exhibits and leave well-wishes. The Chamber distributed souvenirs and Qingdao city cards to attendees, offered mooncakes for tasting, and shared the origin of the Mid-Autumn Festival. The programme also included artistic performances such as song and dance, guzheng recitals and drum music.

Han Changfu, a representative of the Shandong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, remarked at the event that 2026 marks the 18th anniversary of the sister-city partnership between Richmond, Canada and Qingdao, China. He expressed hopes that the event would advance bilateral exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade, culture and tourism, encouraging more people to visit Qingdao and experience its unique charm firsthand.

Ms. Alexa Lood, Richmond City Councillor and mayoral candidate, has taken part in multiple local promotional events for Qingdao and sister-city celebrations. During the gathering, Han Changfu briefed Ms. Alexa Lood on Qingdao’s development, while Ms. Alexa Lood outlined Richmond’s strengths. Both sides noted that the two aviation hub cities are looking forward to the resumption of direct air services.
